A Moonlit Getaway: Romance Under the Stars at North Shore Camping Co.
There’s something about the North Shore that makes romance feel effortless. Maybe it’s the crisp scent of pine, or the way the moon hangs low over Lake Superior, lighting up the night in a way city lights never could. Here, the ordinary fades away, and you’re left with just the two of you, the wild, and a sky full of possibility.
Fair warning – there’s something about our forest and the Point down at Cove Point Lodge that prompts proposals…

3-Day Romantic North Shore Itinerary
Day 1: The Scenic Drive & Settling In
Morning:
- Head North! Take your time once you hit Duluth—pause for coffee and pastries by the lake. Check out Amazing Grace Café (in Canal Park): Famous for homemade scones, cinnamon rolls, and a cozy, local vibe. You can grab your treats and stroll along the Lakewalk right outside.

- Cruise up Highway 61, and stop at Gooseberry Falls for a quick hike. Get into the flow! Arrive at North Shore Camping Co. and check into your site.
- Unpack and unwind. Pop open your champagne splits and toast to a weekend away from it all. Enjoy a lantern-lit dinner and s’mores by the fire. (We’ve got Minnesota-made marshmallows and chocolate in our camp store)! End the night exploring the moonlit sky—your guidebook will help you pick out constellations you’ve only ever read about. And maybe…if conditions are right, you’ll catch the Northern Lights!

Start your day with breakfast at Crossings in Silver Bay. Their hearty plates and fresh coffee will fuel you up for a day of exploring. After breakfast, head to Tettegouche State Park—hike out to Shovel Point for those jaw-dropping lake views, or take a trail to the rushing High Falls of the Baptism River.

Afternoon:
Keep cruising up Highway 61 to Tofte, where you’ll stop for lunch at Coho Café. Grab a bowl of their legendary soup or a wood-fired sandwich, and don’t skip dessert—their bakery case is always stocked with homemade treats. If you’re feeling energetic, swing by Temperance River State Park for a short waterfall hike before heading back.
After a day of adventure, nothing beats keeping it simple. Head back to camp and order Pizza in the Pines (delivered right to North Shore Camping Co.). Kick back at your site with pizza and a cold drink, letting the woods settle in around you. As night falls, pour a little bubbly into those keepsake glasses and see how many new constellations you can spot with your night sky guide.

- Set your alarm for sunrise—trust us, it’s worth it. Cross the road to Cove Point Lodge, where North Shore Camping Co. guests have special access to the lodge’s lakeside trails. Take a quiet stroll down to the cove or out along the rocky point, letting the morning light spill across Lake Superior. It’s the kind of peaceful start you’ll want to bottle up and take home.

- Pack up at a leisurely pace, then point your car south down Highway 61. Before you get too far, make one last North Shore food stop at Rustic Inn Café in Castle Danger. Their pies are legendary, but so is just about everything else on the menu—and their chocolates…don’t get us started!
And then…head home with a few pebbles in your shoe treads, the smell of campfire lingering on your jacket, and a whole weekend of moonlit memories to bring back with you.
A weekend at North Shore Camping Co. isn’t just an escape from the city—it’s a chance to rediscover each other, surrounded by moonlight and the quiet wild. Get outside!
