Frequently Asked Questions for Your Next Camping Getaway
The wind in the trees is your AC! Every tent is heated: some have a wood-burning stove and the rest have a fireplace-style heater, keeping the tent about 20 degrees or more above the outside temperature.
Sites are a 1 to 5-minute walk from the parking lot and base lodge that houses our indoor restrooms and showers. The hillside sites are the furthest away, and there are portable bathrooms within 400 feet of all hillside sites. There are no paved paths at North Shore Camping Co. Trails can be rocky in areas, and you will encounter tree roots. In the spring and during rain, it can be muddy.
There are bears on the North Shore, and they are in our forest. We do provide ample sized bear-resistant food lockers and bear-resistant trash cans for all of our sites. We require all food and beverages to be inside the locker at night, and all trash must be in the trash can, as well. We have occasional visits from curious bears, but no permanent residents at the glampground.

Please call ahead to determine if arriving past 8:30 p.m. is possible. Late check in’s are generally not available for hillside sites due to the disruption the ATV vehicle causes for our other guests.
We do treat for mosquitos, gnats, and ticks in the spring and summer, and do our best to take preventative measures to further the cause. It is safe for pets, and we avoid occupied sites. We do reccomend that you bring bug spray, and if you plan to do some deep hiking in the forest, a bug net head cover is nice to have.

There is an electric car charging station at Cove Point Lodge across the street, and also at Tettegouche State Park, 10 minutes north of North Shore Camping Co.
Wi-Fi is available in our base lodge, and also at Cove Point Lodge across the road on Lake Superior.

All food, snacks, beverages, and coolers should be stored in our bear-resistant food locker each evening.
Yes! Dogs stay free at North Shore Camping Co., up to 2 dogs per site (contact us for special requests). Keep your dog leashed outside your campsite and pick up after them. Every dog gets treats, a glamping cot and a cozy blanket through our Dog Squad. Details on our pet-friendly camping page.
Hike the Superior Hiking Trail right from your tent, bike the paved Gitchi-Gami State Trail along Lake Superior, or ride the Split Rock Wilds mountain bike trail just over the hill. Split Rock Lighthouse, Gooseberry Falls and Tettegouche State Parks are all within about 15 minutes, and Cove Point Lodge across the road has an indoor pool, hot tub, sauna and a Lake Superior beach. Cook your own meals on the Breeo fire pit grill at your site, order a Campfire Cookery meal kit or a Pepperoni in the Pines pizza party delivered to your site, or walk across the road to The Crossings at Cove Point Lodge for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Split Rock Lighthouse State Park is 4.6 miles away (about 7 minutes by car), Gooseberry Falls State Park is 10 miles (about 11 minutes), and Tettegouche State Park is about 12 minutes up Highway 61. We’re at 4595 Highway 61 in Beaver Bay, Minnesota, in the forest above Lake Superior on Minnesota’s North Shore, directly across the road from Cove Point Lodge.
Your tent is set up and ready when you arrive: beds with sheets, pillows, a comforter, a quilt and extra blankets, 3 rechargeable lanterns, a Jackery solar power station, a Breeo fire pit with grilling tools, 1 bundle of firewood, 1 gallon of bottled water, kitchen utensils, dish supplies, coffee, salt and pepper, and first aid items. Before your stay you choose any extra cookware you want, and we deliver it with your luggage. See the full list on our amenities page.
Park in our lot and check in at the Base Lodge. We load your gear and luggage and deliver it all to your tent site by ATV, and we bring it back out at checkout. Guest vehicles stay in the designated parking areas.
Check-in is at 3:00 PM. If you’ll arrive after 8:30 PM, please call ahead at 218-414-7733. Late check-ins usually aren’t possible for hillside sites.
Reservations can be canceled for a full refund up to 30 days before arrival. You can move your stay to new dates in the same year up to 30 days before arrival at no charge, or to the following year (with your deposit transferred) for a $50 fee.
Yes. The Base Lodge has heated modern restrooms and tiled showers with towels provided, and every site is within a 1 to 5 minute walk. Three barrel saunas are open to guests 24 hours a day.
Yes. North Shore Camping Co. guests can use the indoor pool, hot tub and sauna at Cove Point Lodge, plus its Lake Superior beach, just across the road.
Yes. We offer November Cool Nights and winter camping. Winter tents come with a wood-burning stove, a fire pit, winter bedding and essential camping gear, and the heated Base Lodge, restrooms, showers and saunas stay open. See winter camping.
Check-out is at 11:00 AM. We’ll pick up your gear and luggage at your site by ATV and bring it back to the parking lot.
