When spring rolls around up on Minnesota’s North Shore, the place is basically showing off. And the waterfalls? They’re kind of the main event.
Imagine rolling out of bed to the smell of pine and last night’s campfire, with Lake Superior shimmering in the distance. The air’s still chilly, but not “why did I do this to myself” chilly. The birds are going nuts, and somewhere not far away, you can already hear water crashing over rocks. That’s your cue.
Spring is when the North Shore’s waterfalls are at their finest. All that snow that’s been hanging around since November finally melts, and every river, stream, and hidden creek kicks into high gear. We’re talking about roaring, frothy, spray-in-your-face kind of waterfalls — the kind that make you want to fist-bump nature.
The best part? North Shore Camping Co. is pretty much waterfall HQ. Some of the most epic falls around are just a quick drive away. You’ve got the classics like Gooseberry and Tettegouche, where the water puts on a show for the crowds. But if you’re up for a little exploring (and maybe getting your boots muddy), you’ll find secret spots where you can have your own private waterfall moment. Trust us — nothing beats the sound of falling water and zero cell service.

We open on April 16 — right when the waterfalls are getting their flow going, and before the summer crowd shows up asking where the best selfie spots are. It’s the perfect time to do some waterfall-hopping, breathe in that fresh, piney air, and maybe even spot a few deer who are just as surprised as you that winter is finally over.
Want to make the most of it? Check out our waterfall guide for the inside scoop on the best spots, hidden gems, and how not to get lost (ask us how we know).
So, what do you say? Ready to wake up with the waterfalls? Bring your sense of adventure, and come see the North Shore at its loudest and splashiest. We’ll save you a spot by the fire.
Don’t forget! Bring your boots – and grab our Spring Mudboot special!
